Neema (the Swahili word for "Grace") began in response to a visible need to restore and infuse hope into the lives of vulnerable young women in Kitale, Kenya and the surrounding region. Extreme poverty has led these young women to desperate situations, marked with shame and a loss of dignity. Unwed mothers, orphans, and young women at risk of being sold into early marriage, and girls involved in prostitution for survival are among those welcomed into the Neema family.
Neema steps into these young women's lives to serve and equip them through Christ centered discipleship, counseling, and quality skills training, with the hope of seeing them restored from the inside out. We see them not as girls marked by shame, but rather, as beautiful young women, made in the image of God, created to flourish. We have a highly skilled team of Kenyan staff serving at Neema Project in Kenya, who demonstrate passion and compassion each day.
Since 2013, our program has impacted the lives of over 84 young women and their 53+ children. We have seen Jesus breathe healing and hope into the deepest places of trauma and hurt. Many of the young women who have gone through Neema have developed or deepened a personal relationship with Jesus, and families have been reconciled. In addition, graduates of Neema are finding dignified employment and are providing for the physical needs of their family. They are also entering into healthy, Christ-centered marriages. Local technical schools are even inquiring what the key to Neema's success is, as our students have a high success rate in the Level 1 and 2 National Dressmaking Certification exams. And the gospel is being shared throughout the nearby villages as they see lives being reshaped before their eyes.
Neema is entering into the lives of young women at their deepest point of vulnerability, extending grace, and infusing them with hope found in Christ. It is a hard and beautiful work that has been made possible through partnerships with individuals, families, churches, and businesses who are like minded in their desire to extend love, grace, and compassion in order to see the lives of those courageous young women transformed.
We believe this is only the beginning!
