“The fashion show made me believe in myself”: Fashion Show 2025

Each November, anticipation fills the air at Neema as students prepare for a moment that captures so much of their growth—the annual Fashion Show. After months of designing, sewing, and practicing, Neema students step into a milestone of creativity, healing, and confidence, surrounded by the teachers and guardians who have walked with them.
Preparing for the Runway
In the weeks leading up to the event, tailoring students work with teachers, alumni, and visiting designers to bring their ideas to life. This year we welcomed a guest instructor, who offered training in fashion styles and beadwork. Students sketched designs, selected fabrics, styled for different body types, and even incorporated upcycled elements into their creations. They also learned makeup, presentation, and how to walk the catwalk with courage and joy.
Thanks to the generosity of the Dansko Foundation, students walked the runway in brand-new dress shoes that beautifully complemented their outfits. Members of Dansko’s creative team also held a webinar to encourage the students and share insights about creative careers—an unforgettable experience.

For many students, the Fashion Show is one of the most meaningful days of the year. This was true for Naomi, a young mother whose journey reflects the heart of Neema’s mission.
After growing up in deep poverty and leaving school due to lack of supplies—and later, pregnancy—Naomi spent years doing difficult casual labor to support her son. When she joined Neema, everything began to change.
“This year has been the best of my life,” she shared. “I feel proud as I see myself creating beautiful designs. After living most of my life in rejection and stress, this year has brought me hope. The fashion show made me believe in myself.”
